Abstract

Abstract. Traditional sacrificial practices remain prevalent in the daily lives of Catholics in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This reality directs the focus of this article, which addresses the central question: how can traditional sacrifice be brought to its fulfillment within the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice? This study aims to offer a biblical-theological explanation and propose solutions to overcome conflicts of faith arising from the encounter between Catholic faith and traditional sacrificial practices in NTT. To achieve this objective, the study employs a contextual theology approach using the synthetics model. The result indicates that traditional sacrificial practices can be illuminated from a biblical-theological perspective and guided toward the mystery of Christ’s sacrifice through a process of conversion (metanoia). This process fosters an understanding of the kind of sacrifice that is pleasing to God, calls for a transformation of one’s mindset regarding sacrifice, emphasizes the meaning of self-offering inherent in sacrifice, and to foster the transformation of traditional sacrifice toward its fulfillment in the Eucharist.

Abstrak. Praktik kurban tradisional masih dijumpai dalam keseharian hidup umat Katolik di Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). Realitas ini mengarahkan fokus kajian pada permasalahan utama, yakni bagaimana menghantar kurban tradisional itu pada pemenuhannya dalam misteri kurban Kristus? Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menawarkan penjelasan biblis-teologis dan solusi dalam mengatasi konflik iman yang muncul dalam perjumpaan iman Katolik dengan praktik kurban tradisional di NTT. Untuk mencapai tujuan ini, digunakan pendekatan teologi kontekstual model sintesis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik kurban tradisional dapat diterangi secara biblis-teologis dan bisa dihantar pada misteri kurban Kristus melalui proses pertobatan (metanoia) yang mendorong pemahaman akan kurban yang benar dan berkenan kepada Allah, perombakan cara pikir tentang kurban, penekanan makna penyerahan diri dari kurban dan mengupayakan transformasi kurban tradisional menuju penyempurnaan dalam Ekaristi.
