“Nyanyian Rohani” dan “Mazmur” sebagai Warisan Musik GKI di Tanah Papua: Kajian Musikologis, Teologis, Historis dan Sosial
Abstract
Abstract. This study addresses the reduction in the significance of hymns and psalms, which are often understood merely as liturgical elements without a critical examination of their epistemological function and role in identity formation within church life. This study aims to reconstruct the position of hymns and psalms as a medium for shaping religious consciousness within the context of the GKI in Papua. A qualitative approach with an interdisciplinary design is employed through musicological, theological, historical, and social analysis based on fieldwork and critical literature review. The research finding indicates that church musical practices function as a medium for the transmission of doctrine, collective memory, and cultural identity, intertwined with the history of mission and local experience. The study’s conclusion emphasizes that the sustainability of church music requires a critical interpretation capable of maintaining the continuity of meaning whilst opening up space for contextual transformation; consequently, the development of a reflective and contextual liturgical model is recommended.
