Relevansi Pemikiran Abraham Kuyper tentang Relasi Gereja dan Negara bagi Konteks Gereja di Indonesia

Abstract. Abraham Kuyper offers a unique political paradigm on the relationship between church and state because it is rooted in strong Christian faith principles based on the Bible. Considering this, this study intends to examine Kuyper’s thoughts in the context of the church in Indonesia, with a focus on the analysis of the contributions and criticisms of the concepts he put forward. The results of the study show that Kuyper’s emphasis is on a strong separation of church and state. In this sense, Kuyper’s thoughts contribute to strengthening the role of the church in the Indonesian public sphere. However, at the same time, this approach tends to strengthen religious exclusivity which has the potential to cause social segregation in a pluralistic society in Indonesia.

Abstrak. Abraham Kuyper menawarkan suatu paradigma politik yang unik tentang relasi gereja dan negara karena berakar pada prinsip-prinsip iman Kristen yang kuat berdasarkan Alkitab. Melihat hal ini, penelitian ini bermaksud mengkaji pemikiran Kuyper tersebut dalam konteks gereja di Indonesia, dengan fokus analisis pada kontribusi serta kritik atas konsep yang dikemukakannya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penekanan Kuyper ada pada pemisahan gereja dan negara yang kuat. Dalam pengertian ini, pemikiran Kuyper tersebut berkontribusi dalam memperkuat peran gereja di ranah publik Indonesia. Namun, pada saat yang sama, pendekatan tersebut cenderung memperkuat eksklusivitas keagamaan yang berpotensi menimbulkan segregasi sosial dalam masyarakat majemuk di Indonesia.
