Kelindan Kesehatan Mental dan Spiritualitas: Sebuah Pendekatan Jalan Mistik Yohanes dari Salib “Malam Gelap Jiwa”
Abstract
Abstract. This article explores the intertwining of mental health and spirituality from each perspective. In the postmodern era, human beings must be understood holistically and non-dichotomously through an interdisciplinary academic approach. Mental health can no longer be viewed as a purely psychological dimension that appears unrelated to the spiritual dimension, or conversely, that a person’s spiritual dimension is merely a matter between them and God that seems unrelated to their mental health. The intertwining of mental health and spirituality is explored by examining the experience of depression of a 16th-century mystic, St. John of the Cross, who expressed his empirical experience through the poem “the Dark Night of the Soul.” The mystical approach employed here aims to demonstrate that mysticism is not about a perfect state of life; rather, the “dark night” reveals human vulnerability that can be processed in creative and transformative ways.
